The largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca, impresses visitors with its lovely architecture, golden beaches, cosmopolitan nightlife and breathtaking landscapes. This is a beautiful island year-round, however, perhaps its most welcoming side comes out in the summer months, when visitors have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean waters, as well as its cultural vibe. Starting from the capital of Palma, the impressive gothic Cathedral La Seu, and the particular architecture of the city center, are the real scene-stealers, featuring obvious influences from medieval times to the present. This is also where the heart of the island beats, providing its guests with a wide array of cafes, bars, nightclubs and Michelin stared restaurants, many of which are found around the main square and the marina. There are many National Parks around the island, providing the perfect setting for hiking or cycling either through the clearlymarked pathways, or even on Mount Tramuntana which dominates the western side. Sailing is an excellent way to acquaint oneself with Mallorca and its coasts, whereas for the golf enthusiasts, there are more than 20 courses scattered around the island, providing another way to savour its serene landscapes. Boasting a total of 200 beaches, Mallorca offers something for everyone, allowing visitors to find relaxation in its secluded coves even at peak season. Some of the most beautiful beaches are S’Amarador –voted as best beach in Europe in 2008- Cala d’Or, Cala Mitjana, Cala Llombards, Es Trenc and Cala Deia. The entire eastern side of the island is famous for its beautiful sandy beaches, unlike the west which shows striking changes in the landscape, but also a series of picturesque villages, such as Valdemossa, Deia and Soller, all worth visiting. Finally, for those who like to avoid the tourists and get a more authentic experience, Mallorca's inland towns such as Sineu, Inca or Santa Maria del Camí allow visitors to explore the island’s finest vineyards, visit traditional village markets and fairs.
